Description: These six poems, in the form of classical Japanese haiku, are drawn from the novel Fair to Middling by Michael Scherperel (available on Kindle from Amazon). The name of each character in the novel who fictitiously wrote the poem is given in the score on the first page of each song. The five songs share musical material with specific ideas around night, dreaming, water, brotherhood, and other themes. The tenor part is for a lyric tenor with a range from f (c optional) to bˉ1.
