Description: These five Hesse poems are linked by their references to dreaming of day by night and of night by day: "Wie sind die Tage", "Bei Nacht", "Einsame Nacht", "Berge in der Nacht", "Wohl lieb ich die finstre Nacht". The five songs share musical material with specific ideas around night, dreaming, water, brotherhood, and other themes. The tenor part is for a lyric tenor with a range from f (c optional) to bˉ¹. The clarinet part is notated for clarinet in A and does require concert c˜ in "Einsame Nacht".
